Wireless laptop & networking cards

Looking for a way to make your notebook wireless? With a wireless networking card for your laptop, you'll be able to connect to wireless networks around the world.

The evolution has begun! The wireless evolution, that is. Someday, wires will be a thing of the past and everything will be done wirelessly. On this page you can view reviews for wireless cards and even purchase from a selection.

We also have wireless router/card combos on this page, which you'll need if you plan on sharing your internet connection between other PCs.

How wireless networks work

A wireless network's operation is simple - a signal is sent from your wireless router to your wireless card. In order for your card to pickup the frequency from your router, it has to be operating on the same frequency. Most modern day routers currently operate on the 802.11 B or G frequency. Be sure that if your router operates on a frequency such as B or G that your card does the same.

This is likely why manufacturers sell a router/card combo, so you can be sure once you get the hardware home configuring it will be easy.

Wireless network interference

It is possible to get noise or interference that can interrupt or possibly even halt the traffic of your network. Be careful when using devices like wireless phones or wireless headphones - if they operate on the same frequency as your router you may have problems.

Each router is different, but for instance if you have a router operating on the 1.0 Ghz band and a wireless phone operating on that same band you may start to experience service interruptions. Nothing will tell you when you are having a wireless band conflict; you must be the judge.
